Moving in the Rain

Moving houses in the rain???...hmm... Not the best idea right! But unfortunately we live in London, and the weather is never constant for too long. For example, at one instance our city is covered in clouds and rain, and then as quick as a blink of an eye, the sun is out... But not for too long! When moving houses in the rain, the complications are not just the possibility of items and belongings being damaged by the wet weather, yet also the possibility that health and safety of our finest man and van boys may be jeopardized.

But this is England, we can't exactly not move on a rainy day as rainy days is something we have on a regular basis, plus I presume the rain excuse is probably not a valid reason to not handing over the property on the due date. Our man with a van team are experienced in all types of moves.

Moving in the rain tends to take longer than usual, as movers need to pause whenever they recon there may be an Health and Safety issue therefore if there's something you can do to help, then we would be very thankful.

So there is two things you can do to help:

1. If by any chance you have a few old blankets or sheets laying around the house, use them to protect the floor, especially for wooden floor as they are not waterproof. This will reduce the possibility of anyone from tripping on wet floor and bringing in an out muddy foot prints. However for carpet flooring, it is always a good idea to purchase an appropriate carpet protective sheet.

2. We know this is something that cannot always be done, but if you could ensure the boys have an easy access to the property and belongings in order to reduce the walking distance and awkward positions. This will reduce the possibility of someone getting hurt or damaging the items and reduce the removal time meaning you saving money.

Moving to a smaller Home

When a person thinks of moving houses, typically the thought it that they are upgrading implying moving into a bigger property, however due to the economic crises occurring globally many have been forced to relocate to small and cheaper homes.

Below are a few strategies one can utilise in order to ensure the transaction runs smoothly and almost stress free;

During such as stressful stage in a person’s life, one thing that many worry about is whether their old belongings will fit in the new home. Taking measurements may not always be easy; it is common for customers to underestimate their measurements however it is essential to understand that a 5ft sofa will not go through a 4ft door, simply impossible! So please take some time and measure your items and property correctly, in fact call us and we will do it.

See, moving is also a great excuse to throw away anything you no longer use. Yes, I know it’s hard, especially when an item or piece of furniture has been with you for many years however considering your property is smaller, you will not have as much space to store excess as you did before. Remember to allocate the main items in the handiest places. Moving less things also means you may retrieve a cheaper quote from your man and van service.

Due to the limited space for storage, it would also be a great idea to have as many shelves as possible. Obviously this can be very time consuming and even expensive but shop around, do some research and I am sure you can find affordable shelves.

Another strategy to consider is to divide the responsibilities between everyone at home easing the stress from one person. Ask all members of the family to be responsible for their own rooms allowing the process to run a lot quicker and smoother. Plus, as you are organising and moving your own items, you can be sure you will not leave anything behind.

Making your home energy efficient

Moving to a new property is a very expensive procedure. One of the best ways to reduce the cost of your move is to hire the best man with a van service in your area. However, making your home more energy efficient could save you 100's if not 1000's of pounds a year. Here is a brief list of things to look out for:

Lighting - One of the easiest ways to cut the electricity bill is to change your ordinary bulbs to energy efficient one's.

Heating - Simply understanding your system or replacing (if required) your existing old boiler could save you 100's of pounds a year.

Appliances - We would not suggest going out of your way to buy brand NEW appliances just to try and cut your electricity bill. But when replacing old existing appliances with NEW one's be sure to buy the energy efficient models.

Insulation - Your roof / loft, walls and floor should ALL be insulated to reduce heat loss.

Windows - By having double or even better triple glazing will dramatically reduce your home's loss of heat. Not to say, it will help you have a good night's sleep.

Energy Providers - By simply shopping around and finding the cheapest (must have a good reputation) energy provider could save you 100's of pounds a year.

By simply following these, you could save 1000's of pounds on your yearly energy bill.

Handy tips for your House move

There is no way of avoiding a house move. Although it can easily spiral into a nightmare, you can make it a very pleasant and enjoy-full one. If you want the move to a successful one, a plan is a must have! You wouldn't think planning your packing would be useful but it does play a big part in having a stress free move. The items to pack last (couple of hours prior to the man with a van arriving) would be your cleaning products, Vacuum and your gloves. While packing your belongings into boxes - make sure to label these, as this will enable the movers to place the boxes into the appropriate rooms when they arrive at the other end. The packed and label boxes should be placed either in the living area or the room closest to the entrance as this will help minimise the removal time (saving you money). Finally do not forget to clean all the empty rooms prior the removal men arriving. This will save you from coming back to the property and spending a day cleaning.

By following these simple tips from Finest man and van you will be sure to be on the way to a successful and stress free move.

Does your new House number bring you Luck?

How superstitious are you? Let's face it, when moving the last thing to worry about is whether the number and door colour of your new residence will bring you any luck or any unwanted bad luck! No matter how superstitious you are, most people would never consider this when moving. This would indeed be the last thing to worry when there is a million and one problem to organise and solve when in the process of a house move. However a recent survey suggest, we should take more notice of this. According to this new survey, if your new house number is 13, you can relax because the unluckiest house number in England is 33, whilst 76 is the luckiest. Here at Finest man with a van we cannot help you to choose where to move to.
Man with a van London

London has a population of over 7 million (soon to hit 8 million). With this comes a high demand for man with a van companies as we Brits just love to move. In average, a person living in London will move households once every two years, meaning there is an estimated 3.5million domestic moves a year. This is an extraordinary figure which leads to having 100's of moving companies / Man with a van London to choose from. The question is, which one is right for you? There are what i like to think 4 different types of movers. There is the 'one man band', 'small cheap man van companies', 'professional affordable man with a van company' & 'professional expensive Removal company'. Each of these have their advantages and disadvantages, but which is best for your needs?

'One man bands'

Advantages - personalised service., often they have the cheapest rates*.

Disadvantages - as they work solo they often turn up late and in the event of a breakdown all jobs will be cancelled, they do not have the appropriate training and know- how, not insured (* although they may have the cheapest rates but if anything of value was to break in your removal, you will not be covered - May turn out to be a very costly move).

'Small cheap Man Van Companies'

Advantages - cheap rates, generally they will have 2 or more vans on the road at any time.

Disadvantages - Most will not have insurance, although the staff will be industry savvy but they will not have the appropriate trainning and generally do not have the basic equipment to carry out a removal job successfully.

'Proffessional affordable Man with a van'

Advantages - Fully insured and trained staff, Will hardly turn up late to a move, Clean & tidy van with the basic removal equipment.

Disadvantages - They will not have the specialist equipment.

'Proffessional expensive Removals'

Advantages - They are the best in the industry.

Disadvantages - Very Expensive

Moving with a man with a van

Moving is always made easier if you contract either a removals or man with a van company. In London there are hundreds of moving companies. All you have to do is go out there and find the perfect one for your needs. Depending on your requirements you may need to hire a specialist company i.e if you have a piano and its very dear to you and your family it may be a good idea to get a piano specialist to either move this item or take care of your entire move.

With so many companies out there, don't be afraid in being 'picky' and selecting the right one for you. Make sure they are INSURED, UNIFORMED, PROFFESSIONAL and most importantly RELIABLE. Once you have selected a company, have a look at their reviews around the web and in their site. You can visit places like Qype and Yelp and see what customers are saying about their experiences with that company. Outstanding man and van companies like Finest Man with a Van will have a lot of reviews about their service around the web. Whatever your need is, there will be the right company for you.

Moving out - First time

Considered the biggest, most challenging stage of your life is the day of moving out of your parents home becomes a reality. We have all been there and know how hard this leap can be. But here are some handy tips to make this as less difficult as it can be.

- Don't be Naive

Although we would all like to be in a fancy house with a large garden and a great wide drive, unless you have a very well paid job, you will not be able to afford it! It will be a shock when you see all the bills coming in. You have to pay rent, council tax, utility bills (water, electricity & gas) and your food bill in top of the bills you currently may have ( car insurance, phone bill etc).

- House mate / Partner

Not to mention how lonely you will feel if you move in by yourself but financially you will be much better if you could split these bills between two people. BEWARE - make sure the person you decide to move in with is responsible enough to keep up with the payments and doesn't throw a 'house party' every Friday and just trashes the whole place.

- Perfect property / decor

Try and get a place with furnishings. This will save you a lot of buck's. Every day items like a sofa, dinning table, TV, Fridge are an every day necessity which would be very expensive to buy in one go. As for the decor, don't be afraid to go somewhere which is a bit 'grungy'. A lick of paint isn't very costly and it will very easily transform the place.

- D Day / Man with a van

You need to hire a competitive removals or man and van company. They MUST be competitively priced and most importantly Insured. If anything was to break while in transit and the movers where not to be insured, it may well turn out to be a very costly mistake.

we hope these tips help you plan your move. Please feel free to contact Londons finest man with van on 0207 8701 091 for any more advice.

In London there are hundred's of so called 'Moving companies'. Some are good while some are terrible. There are three things to look out for when looking for a man with a van service service. These are: reputation , insurance and are they really a company or a one man band! There are two ways of knowing the service they provide and their reputation. One is to ask family and friends if they have ever used or heard about the man with a van company and the second is to google them and seeing what people are saying about their service. Insurance is a must, even if that means paying a little extra for the service. If your LG plasma is damaged in transit and the company you hired is not insured it will become a very costly move.
